Decodable Books at Brock Libraries!

As the grateful recipients of a mini-grant from the International Dyslexia Association, Ontario, Brock Libraries is pleased to showcase our newly purchased decodable book collection! Decodable books are written in a format that builds reading skills and confidence in all readers, but especially struggling readers and those with Dyslexia. This is accomplished by encouraging learners to read ordered books while they increase their knowledge of letter and sound combinations building on what they already know. While the whole language approach to reading has students learn whole words through context (often using pictures to decipher or guess at unknown words and/or memorize common words by sight), decodable books offer learners a more structured approach to reading by learning letter and sound combinations (phonics). Borrow a Chromebook!

Brock Libraries in partnership with Brock Community Health Centre now have Chomebooks available for usage in branch! Chromebook allow you to: Connect to the internet using Chrome internet browser through a wireless network. Direct access (with a Gmail account) to Google Search; Google Mail; Google Drive, YouTube, Google Play store. Visit one of our branches to borrow a Chromebook for up to 3 hours!

Looking for a day trip and to spend some time outdoors? Try Sibbald Park Provincial Park! Sibbald Point Provincial Park is less than 30 minutes away from Brock. This park has easy hiking trails, bike paths along Lake Simcoe and sandy beaches to get some sun and go for a swim! Visit your local Brock Libraries Branch to borrow an Ontario Provincial Park Day Pass to give you free day access to the parks. Learn More
