Honouring Indigenous History Month at Brock Libraries 🧡

June is Indigenous History Month, a time to reflect, learn, and deepen our understanding of the diverse histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. To support this journey, Brock Libraries has curated a thoughtful resource list featuring powerful stories, scholarly works, and essential reads that highlight Indigenous voices and experiences. Whether you're just beginning or continuing your learning, these resources offer a meaningful starting point. The list is linked directly to our catalogue. Click on any title and place a hold! This initiative also helps prepare our community for the Witness Blanket exhibit, coming to Cannington this fall. The exhibit is a moving national monument that weaves together items from residential schools, churches, and cultural sites to tell the truth about a difficult past and foster dialogue and healing. 🧡 Start exploring our resources here: The Witness Blanket WebsiteDownload Let’s read, learn, and honour together. #IndigenousHistoryMonth #BrockLibraries #TruthAndReconciliation #WitnessBlanket…

Decodable Books at Brock Libraries!

As the grateful recipients of a mini-grant from the International Dyslexia Association, Ontario, Brock Libraries is pleased to showcase our newly purchased decodable book collection! Decodable books are written in a format that builds reading skills and confidence in all readers, but especially struggling readers and those with Dyslexia. This is accomplished by encouraging learners to read ordered books while they increase their knowledge of letter and sound combinations building on what they already know. While the whole language approach to reading has students learn whole words through context (often using pictures to decipher or guess at unknown words and/or memorize common words by sight), decodable books offer learners a more structured approach to reading by learning letter and sound combinations (phonics). Find these items by typing decodable in the search bar of our library catalogue or look for the red decodable spine label amongst the shelves. A sampling of titles to explore:
