Online Resources

Brock Libraries subscribe or have free access to several electronic databases/portals covering a wide variety of subjects.

Your Brock Libraries card is required to access most of these online resources outside of a library branch i.e. from home. Direct access is available at each library branch. Once logged in with your library card, some resources ask you to create an account in order to keep track of your progress.

*** NEW *** Residents can now sign up for an online access card only. Go to the online access card registration page and fill in the necessary information. The library will email you your library card number and PIN within 1-4 business days. Online access cards are valid for 6 months.

The Canadian Encylopedia

The Canadian Encyclopedia is the national encyclopedia of Canada, published online by the Toronto-based historical organization Historica Canada, with the support of Canadian Heritage. It includes more than 19,500 articles in both languages on numerous subjects including history, popular culture, events, people, places, politics, arts, First Nations, sports and science. The website also provides access to the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada, the Canadian Encyclopedia Junior EditionMaclean's magazine articles, and Timelines of Canadian History.

 

Frontier Life : Borderlands, Settlement & Colonial Encounters

This online collection captures the lives of people living on the edge of European settlement across the various frontiers of North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Through a huge array of digitized primary source materials it documents the creation of new states, trade networks, and movements of people in these regions alongside the marginalization and decline of Indigenous peoples. Material ranges across four centuries, from the seventeenth to the early twentieth century.

Our Digital World

Our Digital World(ODW) is creating sustainable digital collections through sharing and open access to collections that shape our communities.

The OurOntario.ca portal is a unique and needed service in Ontario and Canada: a one-stop search portal for multiple heritage organizations’ collections.

ODW also has the largest collection of Ontario Community Newspapers online, from 1810 to present day.

Partnering with the Legislative Library of Ontario in 2007, the Government Documents portal brings together over 120,000 records with downloadable PDFs (representing over 2 million pages) with full-text search, as well as other options for public access. 

 

 

 

PebbleGo

PebbleGo, the award winning K-3 database for reading and research provided by EduReg and Capstone Publishing, features four distinct databases for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students:
