Brock Township Public Library offers…

 

Assistive Technologies
The Beaverton and Sunderland Branches have an assistive technology computer with high contrast/large key keyboards and ergonomic mice. The Timothy Findley Branch has an assistive technology computer with a touch-screen monitor, multi-sized mice, and assistive software, i.e. ZoomText, System Access, and Read & Write Gold, to help you get the most out of your computer experience.

Audio Books & CD-Sound Recordings
BTPL offers a wide variety of books that have been read onto audio CD.
These are excellent formats for the visually impaired, joggers and walkers, those who drive long hours and for anyone who would rather listen than read.

Battery Recycling
BTPL branches are local battery recycling drop-off points. Residents can bring their spent, single-use batteries for proper disposal. .

Business Desk
Located at the Beaverton branch, the following equipment, support and services are offered for your personal or business needs:

  • Business workstation equipped with helpful office supply tools
  • Laptop computer available for in-house loan(current library card or driver’s license required)
  • Print/Copy/Scan and Fax services
  • Report Binding(nominal fees for presentation covers and spiral spines)
  • Laminating(nominal fees for wallet or full-sized pages)
  • Envelopes(nominal fee based on size)
  • Selection of business related reading material available for loan at all three branches and/or via inter-library loan services.

It is advisable to call the Beaverton Branch ahead of time to make an appointment. This is to ensure we have the supplies on-hand you may need, especially for larger projects. Payment is by cash or cheque. Receipts are available upon request.

Children’s Services

Computer / Internet Access / Wireless
Free Internet access at each branch with a valid BTPL membership. Wireless connectivity is available at all three branches. Any patron using the library computers or internet must follow the guidelines specified in the BTPL Acceptable Computer Use policy.

We are actively expanding our DVD collection in all branches.

e-Content
eContent is the digital version of books, journals, and database content. You can access your library’s eContent 24 hours a days, seven days a week.

Garage bag tags
Garbage Bag Tags are special peel-and-stick labels that can be attached to your garbage bag. Residents setting out more than four bags of garbage are required to tag each bag over the four bag limit. Bag tags can be purchased for $2.50 each at any of the BTPL branches.

Holds, Loans, Fines, Renewals
Children and adult materials have different loan periods and associated fines based on the item type. Children's material excluding DVDs do not incur fines. Items may be renewed up to 3 times as long as not requested by another patron.

Get help with completing your school-assigned homework. A free service provided by the staff.

Interlibrary Loans (Children and Adult)
If our library does not have an item you would like, the BTPL staff can request it be borrowed from another Ontario library. The item may take a few weeks before it is available and the loan period, fines and renewals vary. Loan restrictions occur on items published within the past six(6) months, best sellers & high demand items, and/or are fragile/rare/costly to ship.

Language Resources
BTPL offers a limited French and Spanish collection of books and DVD’s. All language formats are available through interlibrary loan.

Large Print
All branches have a collection of fiction and non-fiction items in a larger font size(> 16 pts.) than the standard reading size.

Library Account Management
BTPL patrons may access our Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) with their valid library card. Click on “My Account” to manage your personal library account.

Library Membership
Every person who lives, attends school or pays property and/or business taxes in the Municipality of Brock may apply for a library card free of charge. Any person who does not meet these requirements may apply for a library card for an annual fee of $50.00. Temporary residents of Brock may become members for a three month period for a fee of $ 25.00.

Brock Township Public Library grants reciprocal borrowing privileges to residents of the Region of Durham, City of Kawartha Lakes, Township of Ramara, Georgina Island First Nations Public Library and the Town of Georgina. A current library card (in good-standing) from one of these systems is required to confirm eligibility.

Parents or guardians of children under the age of 18 shall be responsible for any fines or charges incurred by a borrower, is in full-time attendance at any elementary or secondary school, and resides with such parent.

Loan Periods
Most BTPL items circulate for a three week loan period with a renewal period of three weeks. Loan periods and renewals vary for videos and magazines.
There is a maximum number of items per card and a limit of items based on their type i.e. max 3 DVDs per card. Library privileges are suspended when fines and or items overdue exceed accepted limits. Patrons will be billed the value of all lost/damaged items plus a $5.00 administrative fee per item.

Local History and Genealogy
BTPL offers a variety of newspapers, maps, atlases, periodicals and books. As well as in-house access to the library edition of Ancestry.com.
The local Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society, Cannington Historical Society, and the Sunderland Historical Society have many local artifacts and historic documents at their museums. See their websites for more information.

Online Public Access Catalogue – OPAC
BTPL’s OPAC is a database of books, DVD’s and other materials owned by BTPL. Access from home is available with a BTPL library account using your card barcode and a password. Please contact the library if you are having trouble accessing the catalogue.

Outreach Library Servicies
BTPL provides library services to residents of Brock Township who for reasons of restricted mobility, physical or visual disability, or long-term illness, are unable to visit or use regular library facilities. Please discuss your specific requirements with your local branch staff.
