1000 Books Before Kindergarten (1BBK) is a free literacy and reading readiness program for children aged 0 to 5.

Why Participate?

Our goal is to help you foster the love of reading in your little ones while setting the stage for their future reading, language and vocabulary success.  A solid foundation of early reading experiences has been proven to have profound effects on a child's school readiness and their academic success.

The concept is simple; the rewards are priceless!

FAQs

How old does my child have to be to participate?

1BBK is for children who are 0 to 5 years of age (before they begin senior kindergarten)

Can we count books read to our child by grandparents, care providers, librarians etc.?

Absolutely! Every book counts no matter who your child enjoyed it with

Does my child need a library card to register for 1BBK?

Yes, all participants will be required to register for a valid Brock Libraries card in order to receive the free resources and materials

How Does It Work?

It's easier than you think! Just make the pledge to read 1000 books to your child before they enter kindergarten and we will help you each step of the way.

Register your little reader at any of our Library Branches (see FAQs) and receive your free WELCOME KIT full of helpful parenting and literacy resources, a 1BBK information brochure, a book tracking tool, and a FREE children's book to get you started right away.

Read books, lots of books, any books (and yes, more than once) until you have checked off 300 titles on your tracking tool and then visit us for your first 300 BOOK MILESTONE REWARD KIT.

Repeat this process to receive your 600 BOOK MILESTONE REWARD KIT and then finally, your child's 1000 BOOK GRADUATION KIT!
