The Friends of the Sunderland Branch are pleased to sponsor our first Writers’ Workshop on Oct.17, 2019. Author and writing coach Ruth Walker will lead this session. I first met Ruth when I attended a Durham Region Writers’ Conference several years ago. This was the first time that I had “put myself out there” as a fledgling writer. I attended one of her ” Blue Pencil ” sessions – a one-on-one look at a passage I had written. At the time, I found Ruth supportive but able to deliver suggestions for improvement without bruising one’s ego. The support offered at Spring Thaw this past April, a writer’s retreat developed by Ruth and her business partner Gwynn Scheltema, was just as helpful. Both writers have years of experience and worked as a team as writers and editors for the public service. They both write articles for WRITESCAPE, an on-line blog as well as organize Spring Thaw retreats. There are many other writing accomplishments, too numerous to list here but rest assured, this workshop will be worth the effort.
We hope you can join us on Thursday, Oct.17, 2019 starting at 6 pm at the Sunderland Branch, for an idea-packed hour and a half. I assure you Ruth will deliver advice, suggestions, and tasks in a practical manner spiced up with a sense of humor that readily puts you at ease.
For a head start, why not sign out the recently acquired magazine WRITER’S DIGEST from your local branch? It is packed with ideas, exercises, and contest information.
Happy Writing and see you on Oct.17/19.
